Biography
Dr. David Smart is a board-certified dermatologic surgeon and a specialist in lymph-sparing lipedema surgery with the Advanced Lipedema Treatment (ALT) program at The Roxbury Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is honored to treat lipedema patients in his home state and brings a strong academic and surgical foundation to his work.
After graduating with honors from Brigham Young University, Dr. Smart earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed his dermatology residency at the University of Illinois Chicago, followed by an aesthetic and surgical dermatology fellowship at the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery in New York.
Dr. Smart later joined the University of Utah School of Medicine, where he served as Director of Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery and Adjunct Faculty. He introduced liposuction into the dermatology department, pioneered the university’s tumescent liposuction offerings, and was the first in Utah to utilize Renuvion J-Plasma technology.
He completed an advanced fellowship in lipedema liposuction under Dr. David Amron at The Roxbury Institute, mastering the ALT method and its three-dimensional, lymphatic-sparing surgical approach. In addition to clinical excellence, Dr. Smart is passionate about advancing lipedema research and contributing to the evolving standard of care.
At the Lipedema Summit, Dr. Smart shares surgical insight into modern lipedema treatment, safety considerations, and long-term patient outcomes.
